Movie Review: DevD

Don’t miss it

It has been a pleasant surprise that none of the so called activist groups policing moral values in the country has yet demanded a ban on Anurag Kashyap’s latest work on celluloid DevD.

Calling DevD as an adapted version of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s epic novel Devdas would be an understatement. Though inspired by the novel, the movie has taken the depiction of man-woman relationship to the heights that nobody dared to scale in the Indian cinema – either mainstream or parallel -- so far.

DevD is a modern day, very loud and very bold version of the novel of historical significance to many. While most of the plot of the movie is similar to the original epic, the former ends on a positive note thus bucking the sad and tragic end portrayed in the novel.

It’s a must watch for those who dare to accept the basic instincts of human beings as they are and it will be a big shocker for those who cannot.
